well i need to get better at updating these things. a whole school year has gone by!
ethan has graduated from kindergarten. there was a Mass and a little ceremony and reception complete with a cap and gown. so so so cute. i loved it and ethan looked so handsome. i was so proud of him for getting up in front of everyone and singing their two little songs at the reception. i remember when he was at st. anne and he refused to even participate in the Christmas program. i had to beg him just to stand up with the class when they sang songs to us for mother's day.
this summer was different.
he not only sang at his kindergarten graduation, but he sang in the church musical (he even had a two-word-solo during one of the songs: "no thanks!") and again during family banner night at catholic familyland. i think he was proud of himself, too. he would give that kind of half smile that would almost give away that he was happy but didn't quite want to show it.
he turned six this past july. he is still so clever and smart that it feels like he should be older. i often make the mistake of expecting him to be more mature than a boy should be at 5 going on 6. he still likes to cuddle and doesn't like to sleep in the dark with the door closed. there are expectations that come with being 6 years old. one of them is that he has to sleep with the door closed (this is more of a courtesy to isaiah who needs the door closed to sleep) and he has to altar serve.
we are trying to help him overcome his fear of being by himself. he did a good job at vbs last week. he didn't have any of his brothers in class with him, and he did pretty well. it did help that he knew that i was always in the building because i was teaching arts and crafts, but he was flying solo in his class and he was okay. he even became closer friends with some of the other boys. it's endearing that he loves to be with his family so much. but it's awful when he has to learn independence and he doesn't want to go. one thing at a time, right?
eric has been introducing the boys to some vintage cartoons. they are now fans of silver hawks and thundercats. ethan even had a thundercats birthday party. we got him the classic lion-o figure complete with the claw thing and a short sword and a long sword. i think eric likes the gift more than ethan. :)
