man it has been a while since i updated this. ethan is now five. he got to have a big birthday party because five is a big deal birthday year. he had a little star wars party on his actual birthday and a big pokemon birthday a week or so later. it's hard to believe that he is only five. he knows so much for a five-year-old.

i started his kindergarten curriculum, except a lot of it looked too easy for him. so he's in first grade math and phonics. he can read simple books and is great at sounding out words. he is flying through his lessons, and i am so proud of him. i'm astonished by the amount of information his little brain picks up. he remembers so much from isaiah's lessons that he can often recall the information more quickly than his kuya. yikes. he's an independent learner and likes to figure out the directions on his own. if he doesn't read the directions outright, he can figure out what he is supposed to do by looking at the examples. at the same time, he's not afraid to ask for help. we get along pretty well when it comes to his schooling. i say that knowing that might not be the case when things get a little bit harder for him.

ethan started piano lessons over the summer. his books are so cute and he was so proud when he could play his first real song (twinkle, twinkle little star). he's going to be taking part in a piano competition in a month and he'll be playing "old pig donald" and "oh, i love snack time".

what else about ethan? he can shoot a basketball and dribble a soccer ball really well. he is a GREAT swimmer. he is still so clever. i wish i could remember some of the things that he has said, but he has made me and eric laugh out loud with his cleverness. he uses a play on words and even on double meanings...it really is hard to believe that he is just five sometimes. on the other hand, he is still so attached to his family and shy sometimes that you can't believe that he's five and still acts that way. he is very sweet and endearing, though, when he asks to cuddle and just wants to be right in the middle of me and eric. i love watching him try to take care of owen and xav. he tried reading a book to xav today, but xavier wouldn't have it because all he wanted to do was count the things in the book. i'm pretty sure he was reading hop on pop to owen when they should have been napping.
