when ethan was born, tricia asked me if i was going to start a blog for him. "not right away," i said. i figured i'd wait until he started doing stuff like talking and dancing, etc. except that he does do stuff! i forgot how much they learn in so little time...and how fast it goes. this will help us remember...
right now ethan is 8 weeks and 4 days old. i took 11 weeks of maternity leave, and it was way too short. eric took a week off after ethan was born and that was way way waaay too short. before i went back to work, the longest i had been away from ethan was maybe 4 hours...just enough time to catch a movie and dinner. it's hard to be away from your new baby.
the first night we came home, ethan slept in our bed (in a co-sleeper). he slept the whole night on his side, which i thought was strange. he still likes to sleep on his side. it scares me because i'm afraid he'll roll over onto his tummy while he's sleeping and suffocate. i slept poorly last night because i woke up every 10 mintues to make sure the little guy was still alive. i wish he'd be comfortable on his back. we probably just have to be persistent about it, but i know i personally don't have the energy to keep putting him back to sleep at 2am when i have to be up before 6am.
ethan's already grown out of some of his newborn clothes. he's definitely bigger than isaiah was at 8 weeks. he's already cooing, and he has the fencing reflex going on. he smiles a lot, too. there
are times when he looks just like isaiah as an infant, times when he looks like a little eric, and times where he doesn't even look like our child. he's so sweet. when he cries, he just looks so sad. it's so cute and all you can do is pick him up and hug him tight.
i think ethan is a tough kid. he has to endure so many of isaiah's aggressive displays of affection (squeezing his face, hugging too hard, having isaiah lay right on top of him, etc.). i'm sure it will get interesting when ethan gets mobile. not that i want to rush it. i like it when they're this little.
